Saturday Workshop, Creative Writing Courses,
and Novel Planning & Plotting Course
Just tweeted the following: "Went adventuring in the sunshine with @mufidah this afternoon, and then returned home for a yum late lunch/early dinner. #satisfied #relaxed." And, so, what better time to take a few moments to write to my faithful newsletter subscriber folk?
And since I'm not herein limited to a 140-character tweet, I have space to divulge, too, that our late afternoon meal consisted of cannellini bean & cavolo nero soup and the remains of a pagnotta which we baked last night while the soup was simmering, served up with olive oil and balsamic vinegar with a dash of sea salt, and a glass of chilled Chardonnay. Doesn't get much better, particularly after a long walk in the winter sunshine.
Here's a photo which Mufidah took while on our walk ...
Anyhow, all is well Behind the Blue Door. Not that I'm putting in a plug for such things!, but there has been a recent spate of incoming food offerings brought to class, including a baked cheesecake, a likewise homemade ginger cake, some tasty chocolate biccies just last night, as well as a baked rice pudding which magically appeared from our cupboard at the end of a recent Monday evening class. So there's been no real shortage of eats, nor fine bits of writing which have emanated from our time together.
Speaking of which, before moving on to the upcoming new round of course offerings, a quick reminder that the Write from the Heart workshop is this coming Saturday, 11 February. And while there's been three new bookings during the past 24 hours, there are still a few places available if you'd like to throw all caution to the wind and join us for a lovely five hours in Lewes, for what I like to think of as a creative Saturday retreat — writing and sharing with fellow warmhearted folk. The workshop runs from 11 am to 4 pm, with a lunch break from 1 to 2 pm. The fee is £45. Click here to book your place.
Now, three more course offerings for your consideration, all beginning the week of 20 February:
Firstly, the next round of: 1) Monday evening (7 to 9 pm) and 2) Wednesday morning (10 am to 12 noon) Creative Writing courses begin, respectively, on 20 and 22 February. As usual, the 6-week course fee is £95. I'm looking forward to these classes, with a renewed commitment to getting lots of writing done while leaving plenty of space, too, to share the pieces we write.
And — fresh on the heels of the highly successful December course — I'm pleased to be offering another Novel Planning & Plotting course, this one meeting on Friday evenings (7 to 9 pm), particularly as I know there were several folk who had wanted to join us in December but weren't able to make it. The 6-week course will run from 24 February through 30 March. And we'll meet for a workshop halfway through the 6-week course on Saturday, 10 March (11 am to 4 pm, with a lunch break from 1 to 2 pm), during which we'll have an opportunity to write and otherwise continue working together on our stories. As with the December course, the fee is £245. However, if your payment is received — via online bank payment — by this Saturday, 11 February, you can save £50, bringing the fee for this 16-hour course down to £195.
We'll be using Larry Brooks' highly acclaimed book, Story Engineering: Character Development, Story Concept, Scene Construction, available via Amazon.co.uk (£9.59 with free shipping). You'll want to have your own copy of this book to read and consult outside of class so that we can make the most of our time together during each class meeting. I'd recommend ordering your copy right away.
Thank you for your continued support, and we'd greatly appreciate your passing along this newsletter to other folk who you think might be interested in joining us for one or more of these offerings. Now to the just-out-of-the-oven blueberry clafoutis with a cuppa black chai for pudding!
