Slaked Thirst

Below is the second of two poetic pieces written in response to the above photograph which were exhibited, along with the image, during the Artwave Festival this past August and September.  The first poetic response was published yesterday.

Slaked Thirst

I stare into your depths
     unable to tell if I
          dive headlong
               or am right-side-up

A fish, I
     swim in your remedy
          replete

Feel my own weather-worn wooden heart
     and see how fresh is yours —
          pomegranate-ripe, spring-flowing

Like Rumi’s well-wined Sufi soul
     into
ever-widening
          rings of being
